Jagat Seths of Iran are happy. I was lucky to have a conversation with one. He was clearly calling for intervention, and even invasion. According to him, villagers in Iran are a minority (20% of the population, to be precise!) Ahmadinjad wants to start a dictatorship. “They want to rule the country according to Islam” he rolls his eyes. “What’s wrong with that?” I ask. “What was wrong with the Taliban?” He retorts. Taliban and the Iranian government? They were mortal enemies, my friend. But if you speak what you do not believe, who can help you?
The real reason he was so furious with the government is that he’s from a very wealthy family in Iran. And they stand to gain a lot from an occupation/or a Shah style puppet government (remember Ahmad Chalabi?).
