Does anybody care about Manipur? It seems the answer is negative. Irom Sharmila has been on hunger strike for Six Years. Her demands are very ‘unjust’ perhaps. Even though she lives in one of the ‘Integral parts of India’, she dares to ask for the same status as the real India, the one of Hindi-Hindu-Hindustan.
Naturally she’s not taken seriously. And why should she be?
One of my Manipuri friends had a sad story to tell. You remember a boy was trapped in a well and was rescued by Army? On the same day, there was some shooting in Manipur. Some people got killed. Nobody bothered. ‘Our losing life is less important than a small rescue operation’ my friend observes sarcastically.
Anyway, it seems the Special Powers Act is here (oops, I mean there) to stay. What power that lil Manipur have to create a stir in corridoors of the Parliament?
