Allan Johnston is freed. BBC Editor’s blog has thanked everybody for their support, except Hamas- those who ensured the freedom.
Why am I not surprised?
This response of a Ghazan journalist is particularly appalling.

Australia has been the first to admit that securing oil was the reason they participated in the genocide of the Iraqis.
Thank you for your courage.
(I should probably have put an exclamation mark there, at the end of the last line. I thought that was not necessary!)
Well, DUH
BBC News: Australia ‘has Iraq oil interest’
Australian Defence Minister Brendan Nelson has admitted that securing oil supplies is a key factor behind the presence of Australian troops in Iraq.

I was delighted to see Johnston freed; journalists are the conscience keepers of a free world and must never be held captive or be mentally or physically threatened. Their freedom and well being signifies that we inhabit a civilized world.
I could not understand why you were apalled by the Gazan journalist…

We should congratulate them, they are the first to admit the truth. Undoubtedly, they will be hated by the guys in PNAC now.
I’m wondering how they look now.
I too was very happy, IMeMy. He sure is a wonderful journalist, and very (very very… ) courageous too! It is a shame that he was kidnapped in the first place.
The comment appalled me in it’s helplessness- “please do not hate us” says she!
Now that I understand! Helplessness is the last thing a journalist ought to feel; that IS appalling!
Interesting post!

Allan Johnston has given credit to Hamas for his release. I am not a follwer of Hamas but I think anybody in favour of democracy should find ways of communicating with Hamas because they have been elected democratically.
aunty, Johnston has thanked them, sure. I was talking about the blog post at BBC Editor’s blog.
How can you be a follower of Hamas? 🙂 They have nothing to do with India! 🙂
Editor, I like that site. Sure. But given my small number of readers, I don’t know how many people I can send you over.
There is no restriction in being a follower of an ideology. If a good thought comes even from my enemy I will be the first one to grab it.
There was a discussion on Questiontime BBC (it was about young Britishers) after Johnton’s relaese in which they were discussing that, after the role played by Hamas in the release of Johnston should Britain change it’s policy towards Hamas. There were contradictory views but it was very clear that they acknowledged the role Hamas played in the release. There were certain preconditions they put but there was a definite softening of attitudes.
