Last year, the most searched term on google was Paris Hilton. If you think people were looking for a sexy woman, you have fallen into propaganda, in which everybody, including those who searched, have fallen into. Actually they were looking for a business icon.
When D&G was making this ad (thanks xserentyx), they did not have what you have in mind. They wanted to show a woman discussing business with some of her male colleagues. If you thought of anything else, you must be having mideaval traits.
We have had so many women presidents in the Modern Nations, that we can now surely say that the horrific days of darkness of the past are now past. We had so many of them, that it is difficult to pick just one woman president from the US or France.
In fact we modernists don’t even think about whether those running for election are men or women. That is why when the (some critics say, first; well, some critics are always irritating) French female candidate was pictured in a bikini, on a beach, with her family, there was no uproar at all.
Or a quick look at the Bond movies will convince us that women are not only sex objects. They can help a first rate secret agent in his mission as well. This ‘asexual’ portrayel of women is one of the reasons of Bond movies’ runaway success.
We can have a peek at the children’s corner. We got the Wonder Woman, complete with revealing dress, well-shaped breasts. Don’t forget the weapons and power. They are there too. Compare that with, maybe, Spiderman? Or Superman? Or even Tintin? They completely cover themselves up. Men must be oppressed in the west. Women force them to cover up.
We don’t divide society into men and women, whites and blacks or anything else.
Viewing women as sex objects is exclusively orient thing. They don’t find space here.
(shockedandawed led me to the video.)
UPDATE: I just found out that in US jails, pregnent women are kept in shakles.
Thank You! Extremely good post. Between the three women interviewed which one you agree with their comments. I would like to know from the male perspective.
That is a tough question. I agree with all of them to some extent.
el-Kathiri, the third woman from left, in full veil, was the most eloquent of them. Yet, personally I don’t like full face veil. Maybe because I am not very familiar with it. Face veil is not mandatory as well. I don’t like things overdone, too. But then she is doing it with good intention.
-Things are getting complicated.
Sania, the second woman from both sides, was trying to say something important: you must try to integrate into the society. I mean you should not feel like a foreign element.
but then, cultures evolve. And it is right that people should expect different kinds of people. So though I agree with Sania that you should try to make others feel comfortable, but I don’t agree that you should give up on principles.
She had another point too. Qur’an, nowhere, really, specifies that head has to be covered.
The first woman from left was the one with whom I agreed most.
Thank you Mana for your views. Sania had a good point…Qur’an nowhere, really specifies that head has to be covered. Like you, I agreed most with the first woman. One should not give up on principles just to make others feel comfortable.

LOL! 😀 really found this funny.
But still, from the other perspective, some see sexuality as power. Which it is, in a way, it can be used to progress one’s career or get favours etc. The question is, is it ethical to use ones sexiness as such or is it akin to sexual harassment?
Sexuality does give you some power. Especially among the opposite sex.
But it will always make you trail. Your success will depend on the dominance of the other sex, namely male, because it is only they who will prefer you for sexuality.
What will end up happening is a very sexy, but not so able woman will go high up. It will only serve to confirm that women are not as capable as men are.
It will hurt none other than women.
In my opinion, using anything other than quality/skill/hardwork to reach up the ladder is wrong.
Good video, like some people have pointed out this situation is complicated and I respect all three women in the video for their video.
I personally believe that wearing a veil is fine – whatever society you are on. However, I also think the niqab is a form of dress that oversteps whatever requirements the Qur’an recommends to women in relation to modesty.
But I dont believe that women who dear wear niqab should be discriminated against because of the choice they have made.
“What will end up happening is a very sexy, but not so able woman will go high up. It will only serve to confirm that women are not as capable as men are.”
good point
Good point indeed….It will only serve to confirm that women are not as capable as men are….yes but, in certain areas… and in other certain areas women are more capable than man…and in most cases both are as capable as each in different ways.
sorry I miss out a word in the above comment …and in most cases both are as capable as each other in different ways.
I agree with shirinnatalie… “But I dont believe that women who dear wear niqab should be discriminated against because of the choice they have made.” … We have to respect the choice of others to be respected of ours…especially choices that are beneficial to the society.
very true.
I wonder if the women without hijabfasted or not. Did she question the legality of it? Why not see if fasting and her bad breath will have a positiveimpact on the society?
legality of what?
o yeah! bad breath of a fasting man/woman can have a lot of positive effect. sometimes it opens the charity door. 🙂
